School Librarians,
Let’s get out from behind the desk and into the advocacy driver seat.
I know what you are thinking...
You have books to check in and shelve, your next class is going to arrive in a few minutes, a teacher just stopped by to request books on space, and needs them before the end of the day, and it is only 9am. Where in the world am I even going to find the time to brand my school library? And I definitely can't add one more thing to my plate right now. I mean, if students already breeze past the book displays and administrators don’t give your library data bulletin board a passing glance, what’s the point? I’m not sure if it will even make a difference to my patrons. They already ignore what I am currently doing. I am just happy they, sometimes, return their books on time. |
But...
|
You CAN change the culture of the school library.
You CAN advocate for your library. You CAN make an impact on your school community. You CAN be visible and keep patrons safe. You CAN build a brand that draws people in. You CAN build a system that works for YOU. |
I know you want to level up the image of your school library and build a captive audience,
but it can be tough to know where to start.
but it can be tough to know where to start.
Imagine this...
CultureThe library is buzzing with energy and life during homeroom or after school. Students are spread out working in small groups and chatting. There is a small group of “regulars” working on a puzzle and a few kids wave through the windows as they walk by.
|
ConnectionA student rushes in during homeroom, backpack and coat still on, to talk to YOU about the book they just finished, because it was posted on the library’s social media site.
|
VisibilityA teacher, who has never asked for anything before, drops by to ask about a project you did with Mrs. X’s class because they overheard another teacher chatting about it in the faculty room.
|
AdvocacyAn administrator decides to do an impromptu pass through with the superintendent and brags about how the library is the heart of the school and that the teachers and kids can't get enough of what is happening in your space.
|
If you are sitting there thinking...
YES, this is what I want for my library,
this is what I have been waiting for!

"My personal theme for this year is Begin Again. I chose to make the change to a new school, but I really need to embrace all the ways I can build this program from the ground up. Knowing that, your program came at the right time!" - Karen @elementarylibrarylife |
Meet your Branding Bootcamp coach!
Hi! I'm Sarah,a middle school librarian, mom of two, and serious stress baker. In fact, there is probably a pan of brownies in the oven as we speak!
I am also passionate about advocating for school libraries and teaching other school librarians how to become advocates for their library with my Pathway to Visibility. |
After major budget cuts and two years of consistent advocacy, the sharing of our library story, I was able to get some of the money back!
That is when it clicked for me. I realized that if school librarians could apply branding and marketing strategies to their space, there was a huge potential to create connections, advocate and build community in ways we can’t even imagine. |
Everyone deserves to know the power of a school library, especially those who use it most. So if you are ready to join this team of librarians to get started leveling up your library and connecting with your patrons like never before,

FAQ
How does this work?
Once you sign up, you will have full access to the pre-course introductory materials and the first week of content. Each additional module will be pushed 8 days after enrollment, so you can work at your OWN pace or revisit the content a month or even a year from now!
I am concerned about school and student privacy, so if I can’t show my students what do I even post to a social media account?
The social media aspect of this course is only a small portion of the content. You can absolutely protect and respect the privacy of your students and patrons with the strategies included in the Protect Your Patrons step.
My district only wants one social media account, so it isn’t even worth the trouble of starting this process if I can’t use the programs where students are spending their time?
Even if your district does not want you to have a social media account for your library program, there are still many ways you can use the branding and marketing strategies to share the story of your library AND change the culture of your space. Using social media is just one part of the process, but is not a requirement for success.
Do I need a paid Canva account? What if I already have a Canva account?
You do not need a paid Canva account to use any of the templates or resources provided here. While the paid version of Canva is pretty awesome, I know not everyone wants to shell out the money for it, so everything I design is created for use within the FREE version. You can sign up for an educators version of Canva to access some of the paid options for free. If you already have an account, awesome, if not, I will also discuss other options that may work better for what you have access to.
Are you leading the course or do I have to go through it on my own?
The course is asynchronous, meaning that you will go through it at your own pace, however all of the lessons are created and taught via audio or video by me. There is absolutely no need to finish with in a specific timeline, you can work at the pace that works best for you.
Will I have enough time to complete this?
This is a streamlined course and process. The time it takes for you to work through each module will vary depending on how much time you chose to spend with the content. You can always come back to the content later in the year or next year if you find yourself needing to focus on other things.
What (equipment) will I need to get started?
A computer with internet access and your log on information for the course. There are several programs mentioned in the course, but none of them require additional purchases and the free version can be used.
When can I enroll in the Branding Bootcamp?
Enrollment starts NOW!
Will there be updates?
If you know me, I am constantly making updates to the content I teach my students and it is no different here. All updates and new content will be included for the life of the course.
Can I just figure this out on my own?
Sure you can, there is a ton of information out there on the internet about business marketing and graphic design and branding... but, none of it is tailored specifically for a school librarian, by a school librarian who has applied this process to their own library. You could find everything I am talking about on the internet, but it wouldn’t all be in one place, in an easy to follow pathway. I have done the digging around and testing and research for you and curated the best of it here for you in a manageable process tailored to our field.
