Using Passion Projects to teach research is not the free-for-all chaos you might imagine.
It allows students to have their freedom, while being guided through a process where they are the student driver and YOU are telling them when to apply the gas or brakes.
It takes time, but let's be real...there is no quick and easy magical unicorn for teaching research.

You may be thinking, are there canned mini-lessons included in this product?
There are not and let me tell you why. YOU know your students better than anyone. You know their research needs and ability levels. I am here to give you the starting point, but the best lessons are going to be the ones you design with YOUR students in mind, not mine. You probably already have a few of these lessons in your arsenal already, so drop them into the process and then apply the tips and ideas I share in the workshop to make them your own. So now, when you are swamped with all of the extras that school librarians take on, you will have the resources to hit the ground running when you start planning Passion Research Projects for your students. |

FAQ's
Who is this guide for?
This guide is specifically designed for school librarians who want to save some time and energy when it comes to planning for passion projects. This is also a guide to help clarify your messaging to co-teachers or administrators who are unsure about passion research projects. It can be used with just about any level, but is specifically designed with middle and high school students in mind.
What if I am an elementary school librarian? Will this apply to me too?
This guide is designed with secondary librarians in mind, however many of these resources could be adapted for upper elementary students or gifted and talented programs.
Why is it called an implementation guide?
I use the phrase implementation guide because it does not provide canned lessons or PPT slides that you can drop into your instruction tomorrow. The reality is that this process takes time to plan and while this guide can shorten that time, panning is still a part of the process that needs to happen before implementation. Additionally, you probably already have some of these mini-lessons created for your students. Don’t make more work, drop in what you have already created and then modify for your student needs.
Is it really ALL editable?
YES! It was important to me that you are able to meet the needs of YOUR students. What I have here is a variation of what I use with my middle school classes, however that may not be what works best for yours. So, you have full ability and rights upon purchase to modify as needed for your students, just don’t try and re-sell them as your own...you’re a librarian, you know how this copyright stuff works!
What if I want to use this with my online class or student Learning Management System?
All of these resources are editable in PPT or Word as well as Google Drive. Drop them into your LMS in the format that works best for you.
